There was once a man
who created something so precious,
something he loved,
something he desired.

He spent years crafting and creating,
so intently and precisely.

He created it to move,
to think,
to speak,
to love.

He created it with a mind to explore,
concepts to ponder—
a masterpiece.

He spoke over it words of life, words of love,
saying,
“I am your Maker.
I love you dearly,
and I will keep you forever.

You were made for beautiful things.
You were made to run and to dance,
to laugh and to sing.
You were made for Me!

I will love you more than anything else.
I will take care of you.
I will watch over you.
I will hold your hand.
I will be with you wherever you go.

Look at all these things I made for you.
I made a garden for you to walk in,
a place of abundance.

And I promise you—look at Me—
you will never be unsatisfied.
Look! There’s a river over there
with water that never runs dry.
Go, fill yourself endlessly.
Indulge in this land I’ve created for you.
Be filled.”

Imagine this man and his prized creation.
This creation was his child.

Imagine the way he thought about him at night,
the way he built for him wonderful plans,
the way he looked at him and said,
“I created you.
Oh, how beautiful you are.”

Imagine this man.

Now imagine his child,
who one day decided to get up and walk away.

Imagine the pain.
Imagine the sorrow.
Imagine the grief
when he realized his child didn’t want
anything he had to offer,
didn’t believe he had everything
he would ever desire.

Imagine the wails, the tears,
the pain of rejection
from the one person you loved,
the one person you spent years crafting,
the one you wanted such a beautiful life for.

What is it like to lose?
What is it like to try and understand
why they wouldn’t choose you
when you had everything in the world to give,
when you were the only thing that could satisfy,
when you were the only one
who truly knew this child,
inside and out?

What is it like to watch them
walk into death,
walk into the slaughter?

Imagine this man,
standing, watching,
as his child walked away
without looking back,
while the man holds the key
to the very thing his child wanted.

What would you do?
What would you say
when your calls were no longer heard,
your voice no longer recognizable?

After years without,
being eternally separated from your love,
all because he was too blind to see,
too blind to hear,
too blind to know
his one, true, perfect Creator.

“Because you are precious in My eyes and honored, and I love you,
I give men in return for you,
peoples in exchange for your life.”

Isaiah 43:4
